Harrison Driver Arrested In Overnight New Rochelle Hit-And-Run

NRPD said the driver is facing charges in connection to leaving the scene of the accident and driving while intoxicated.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A pedestrian was seriously injured in an early morning hit-and-run on Main Street. Police say a suspect has been arrested and is facing a slew of charges.

Just before 4 a.m., New Rochelle police were called to 270 Main Street on a report of a hit-and-run accident involving a pedestrian. The pedestrian victim suffered what was described as "serious injuries" and was rushed to a nearby hospital.

New Rochelle Police Accident Investigators located the vehicle and driver believed to be involved in the collision. Fidel Zacarias of Harrison was later arrested. The 36-year-old is charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, felony vehicular assault and felony leaving the scene of a serious physical injury accident.

The 22-year-old who was struck is listed in critical condition, according to police. The name of the New Rochelle man is being withheld for privacy reasons. His family has been notified.
