Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued for New Rochelle

Rain—and possibly some sleet—is expected overnight and tomorrow.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for southern Westchester County communities over the weekend due to possible flooding in some areas.

There is a chance of ice jam flooding of rivers and streams due to the combination of snowmelt and rainfall.

“Ice Jam flooding is unpredictable and sudden,” says the NWS. “So it is advised that those with interests along our larger rivers and streams monitor NWS forecasts for the latest information.”

The impending weather system has already delayed Saturday’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade in White Plains by an hour.

“Well after midnight, we’ll see rain spread into the Hudson Valley. A few locations could see a very brief period of wet snow or sleet at the onset of the precipitation… but for the most part, this is a plain… cold rain for everyone,” says Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather. “Rain could fall steadiest during the morning hours on Saturday… and begin to taper off during the early afternoon.”
