Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued For New Rochelle

The NWS is talking very heavy rainfall Tuesday into Wednesday. Here are details about the work week around New Rochelle.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The National Weather Service knows what's coming. The NWS issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook Monday morning about the weather in Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties for Tuesday and Wednesday:

A cold front will approach the region tonight and slowly cross the area Tuesday into Wednesday. Ahead of the front, gusty winds are expected with the potential for damaging wind gusts in any lines of convection Tuesday and Tuesday night. The slow-moving front will also bring heavy rain to the region, with 2 to 3 inches of rain likely and localized swaths of 3 to 5 inches possible. This presents an areawide threat for minor urban and small stream flooding, with a localized threat for flash flooding.

Here are all the details about the work week in southern Westchester:

  • Today: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 71. Southeast wind 6 to 8 mph.
  • Tonight: Areas of drizzle before 2am, then areas of drizzle with a chance of showers between 2am and 3am, then showers likely with areas of drizzle after 3am. Patchy fog. Otherwise, cloudy, with a low around 63. Southeast wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
  • Tuesday: Showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Patchy fog before 2pm. High near 71. South wind 13 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
  • Tuesday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Low around 62. South wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 2 and 3 inches possible.
  • Wednesday: A 40 percent chance of showers, mainly before 9am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 66. Southwest wind 6 to 8 mph.
  • Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 48.
  • Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 60.
  • Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 45.
  • Friday: Sunny, with a high near 64.
  • Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 49.
