Hearing on Diner Roadway Tuesday in New Rochelle

A developer wants to build a diner near Home Depot.

On the agenda for Tuesday's City Council Committee of the Whole meeting is a public hearing on whether the city should abandon a roadway so a diner can be built.

The hearing is set for 7:30 p.m. at City Hall, 515 North Ave. There is another hearing as well about zoning changes on North Avenue in the area of Iona College. The City Council meeting begins at 3:45 p.m.

In June 2012, the city entered into an agreement with DeRaffele Manufacturing to purchase two city lots between Main Street and Nardozzi Place off Weyman Avenue for $600,000 for the purpose of building and operating a diner.

The lots will have to be combined to allow the diner and parking area to be built, and the design includes the addition of a traffic lane on Weyman Avenue from Main Street to Nardozzi Place to accommodate additional traffic.
