Heat Advisory Issued For Parts Of Westchester Tuesday

A heat advisory is issued when heat and humidity are expected to make it feel like 100 degrees or more.

SOUTHERN WESTCHESTER, NY — A heat advisory has been issued for southern Westchester County for Tuesday. The National Weather Service said the advisory will be in effect from noon to 6 p.m. The heat index values will be around 100 this afternoon.

A heat advisory is issued when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it is 95 to 99 degrees for two or more consecutive days, or 100 to 104 degrees for any length of time.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments to reduce risk during outdoor work. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.

Heat stroke is an emergency; in case of heat stroke, call 911.
