Latest On Body Found Near Westchester's Nature Study Woods Trail

Police said the dead man was apparently a homeless person who was seeking shelter from the weather in a drainage tube.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Police say hikers on the Westchester County Parks system's Nature Study Trail reported finding a body shortly after 7 p.m. on Thursday evening.

New Rochelle police said after the body was discovered, the Westchester County Police took over the investigation because the Nature Study Woods is a county-owned park.

Westchester County police said that the dead man is apparently homeless and was found in a cylindrical concrete drainage pipe that he may have been using for shelter. It is believed he was dead for several days prior to being discovered. A Westchester County Public Safety spokesperson said that the cause of death remains under investigation.

Investigators have not yet identified the body, described as that of a man in his fifties.
