NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Libraries are cool and reading is even cooler. If you still need convincing, just take a look at Spiderman's weekend schedule — he won't be apple-picking or at the farmers market. No, he'll be at the New Rochelle Public Library.

The New Rochelle Public Library announced that it will be hosting a Superhero-themed Family Fair on Sunday, October 2, from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.

The day will feature activities for children of all ages, including a magic show with magician JoshyK, a dance party with DJ Smithyboy, a special visit by Spider-Man, a teen video game tournament, carnival games, costume-making, raffle prizes, an obstacle course, an interactive manga art demonstration and more.

Attendees of all ages are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite superhero or comic book character and to participate in a costume parade as part of the festivities.

"Family Fair is designed to bring New Rochelle residents from all parts of the city into the Library for an afternoon of fun and also highlight the breadth and depth of Library resources available to the community," Library Director Tom Geoffino said. "The theme of the event is SuperHeroes, and aligns perfectly with the notion that reading is a superpower."

The Family Fair is made possible through the support of the New Rochelle Public Library Foundation (NRPLF), a volunteer fundraising and advocacy organization working to ensure the future well-being of the library.

"The Foundation’s goal is to support Library initiatives that enhance opportunities for lifelong learning, exploration and public discourse," New Rochelle Public Library Foundation President Chris Selin explained. "Family Fair is a way to introduce, or re-introduce the Library to our community. We hope that in the months, and years to come, families will continue to take advantage of all the Library has to offer."

The event is free and open to all. Registration is requested here.
