Honey Do List for Summer

Now that Memorial Day has passed, it's time to turn our attention to undoing winter's damage to your home, which is, most likely, the biggest financial investment of your lifetime. That investment can turn into a nightmare if regular maintenance is not part of your standard routine. Without regular maintenance, your home could be headed for costly repairs down the road. Preventive maintenance will help avoid big repair bills later on and improve your home's value and appearance. 

Reasons to Maintain Your Home

• You will have pride in a beautiful, well maintained home.
• You will protect the value of one of your largest lifetime investments.
• You will have confidence knowing all your home's systems and equipment are running smoothly.
• You will maximize your home's sales appeal and avoid being charged for home inspection problems when you sell your home.

With the help of HGTV, I put together a handy check list for summer maintenance:

Inspect brickwork and stucco.

Replace rotted siding and trim; paint as needed.

Clean gutters and downspouts.

Inspect your roof.

Get a chimney check-up.

Check the attic for leaks.

Check out your heat/air unit; change batteries in detectors.

Prune landscaping and make sure drainage is good.

Check concrete driveways and patios.

Weatherproof your windows and doors.

Check the sump pump. 

If you're like me, I already have a "honey do" list tacked up on the refrigerator, so I apologize if I'm adding more tasks to your list.  But, if using this list can save you thousands of dollars in the long run, I'll take that chance.
