For the mid-Hudson Valley, the NWS said heat index values of 95 to 100 degrees will likely happen for at least two consecutive hours, most likely reaching the peak around 3 p.m.

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Officials recommend drinking plenty of fluids, staying in an air-conditioned room and out of the sun and checking up on relatives and neighbors.

The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects.
