New Rochelle's Web site has detailed information on the grievance process, but the basics are as follows:

  • Find out the assessor's estimate of market value of your property. The city's property portal can give you the information.
  • Determine your own estimate of your property's value, usually by examining comparable sales.
  • If you think your assessment is too high, file the grievance application with the required documentation and anything else you feell will help prove the value of your home.

The city said that only original applications will be accepted in person or by mail. It will not accept any emailed or faxed applications.
