Update: 10-Year-Old Girl Dies in SUV Accident in New Rochelle

The girl's friend, a 12-year-old boy, was seriously injured in the Tuesday incident, in which both children were run over.

Updated at 8:39 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015: A 10-year-old girl died Tuesday night after she and a 12-year-old boy were accidentally run over by an SUV in a parking lot on Drake Avenue in New Rochelle.

The 12-year-old boy is being treated at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx and was listed in serious but stable condition, reports WABC-TV.

Both children were in the vehicle at about 4:30 p.m. but somehow they got out - or fell out - and were run over as the female driver was backing up. Police and emergency responders were immediately called to the scene, and the investigation is continuing.

New Rochelle Police Sgt. Myron Joseph said no one has been taken into custody in relation to the accident, according to The Journal News.

Updated at 6:03 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015: Two children, one believed to be 12 and one 10, were struck by a car in a parking lot on Drake Avenue, according to The Journal News.

The 10-year-old, a girl, appeared to have been seriously injured. The boy, 12, did not appear to be seriously hurt, writes reporter Matt Spillane.

Original story: WABC-TV is reporting that at least one, and possibly two, people were struck by a car Tuesday afternoon in New Rochelle.

Details of the incident were not readily available, but according to New Rochelle police it happened on Drake Avenue at about 4:30 p.m.

At least one person has been taken to an area hospital, but their condition was unknown. Whether a second person was also hit is under investigation.
