The Long Arm Of The Law Catches Up With Hudson Valley Fugitive In Maryland: Sheriff

SOUTHEAST, NY — A anted Putnam County man is now in custody, according to authorities.

Sheriff Brian Hess announces the arrest of Selvin Martinez Quim, 34, on felony domestic violence charges following a weeks-long, multi-state investigation by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

The investigation began during the early morning hours of June 14, when deputies responded to a domestic violence incident in the Town of Southeast. Deputies located the victim after she fled to a nearby gas station with visible injuries. Deputies said that when they tatempted to take Martinez Quim into custody at the residence, he jumped from a window and fled on foot into a nearby wooded area.

The investigation was turned over to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation. The BCI investigators developed information indicating Martinez Quim had fled to Maryland. Working with the Montgomery County Police Department, the Maryland Coordination and Analysis Center (MCAC), and the United States Marshals Service, investigators tracked Martinez Quim’s whereabouts, leading to his arrest in Maryland on July 16.

On July 30, members of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation traveled to Maryland, took custody of Martinez Quim, and bought him back to Putnam County.

Martinez Quim was charged with felony strangulation, criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation and assault.

Martinez Quim was arraigned in the Town of Southeast Court, where bail was set at $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond. A full stay-away Order of Protection was also issued on behalf of the victim.

Sheriff Hess commended the outstanding work of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and thanked the Montgomery County Police Department, the Maryland Coordination and Analysis Center (MCAC) and the United States Marshals Service.
