Memorial Day Events 2022: New Rochelle

There will be time for fun and festivities this weekend, but Memorial Day events will honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Longstanding events to honor the sacrifices of America's soldiers will take place in New Rochelle once again in 2022.

On Sunday, May 29, at 10 a.m., grave flag replacement will take place at the Beechwood Ceremony. Volunteers are invited to come join in.

On Memorial Day, the City of New Rochelle will host both a remembrance ceremony at Memorial Plaza and a waterside ceremony at Hudson Park. The events are presented by the City of New Rochelle Veterans Advisory Committee.

The remembrance at Memorial Plaza will begin at 10:30 a.m., at the intersection of Memorial Highway and Main St. The ceremony will feature longtime New Rochelle residents and former U.S. Army SP5 James Lasser and SP4 James Mecca as keynote speakers, along with the New Rochelle High School band.

The waterside ceremony will take place at noon in Hudson Park. The New Rochelle Police Department Harbor Patrol will assist with the laying of a memorial wreath offshore to honor those lost at sea.

Also on Memorial Day, at 11 a.m., the New Rochelle American Legion Post 8, VFW Post 439 and the United Veterans of New Rochelle will have a remembrance ceremony and celebration. The event will take place at 112 North Ave., rain or shine. After the memorial service, the American Legion will provide a complimentary BBQ, beverages and entertainment. The keynote speaker Former Congressman Joseph DioGuardi will be joined by Congressman Jamaal Bowman. The Isaac E. Young Middle School Sixth-Grade Chorus will perform a musical interlude and New Rochelle's hometown band "Undercover" will perform as well. Special guest "Gen. George Washington" will be there too.
