A Musical Tribute to Horace Silver

Free concert on April 21st at the Ossie Davis Theater at the New Rochelle Public Library

The New Rochelle Council on the Arts is proud to co-sponsor a special tribute to Horace Silver on Sunday, April 21st at 2 pm at the Ossie Davis Theater at the New Rochelle Public Library. The concert is free and open to the public.

The concert was organized by New Rochelle musician Jared Pauley to honor the late pianist Horace Silver, a New Rochelle resident towards the end of his life; featured musicians will include Pauley and a quartet of local and NYC-based musicians playing compositions from the 1950s through the 1960s.

Silver, an NEA Jazz Master, was described as “the heart of the hard bop era”, helping to form the influential Jazz Messengers and composing many blues and gospel-flavored songs that have become part of the jazz canon, including "Lonely Woman," "Song For My Father," "Señor Blues," "The Preacher," "Nica's Dream," and "Peace." The NEA noted “His piano playing was heavily rhythmic, driving his musical colleagues to greater heights in their solos.”
