National Voter Registration Day 2026: Check Here To See If You Are Registered To Vote In New York

NEW YORK — As thousands of organizations across the country celebrate National Voter Registration Day, officials in New York have made it easy to see if you are registered to vote in the upcoming midterm elections.

Sept. 15 is the nation's largest nonpartisan civic holiday dedicated to helping every eligible American register to vote.

"This is the day when thousands of people take voter registration into their own hands and make it useful in their communities," said Chyann Sapp, Campaign Director for National Voter Registration Day. "Our partners know where people gather, what questions they have and what information they need. Today, they are using that knowledge to help more Americans get registered and ready to vote."

Organizations and companies, including the American Library Association, APIAVote, Ben & Jerry's, Campus Vote Project, Democracy Works, HeadCount, Independent Sector, League of Women Voters, Mi Familia Vota, NAACP, National Disability Rights Network, National Urban League, Rock the Vote, Students Learn Students Vote Coalition, VoteRiders, Voters of Tomorrow, and YMCA of the USA are teaming up to help make sure everyone's voice can be heard.

Election officials remain central to the holiday. National Voter Registration Day is endorsed by the National Association of Secretaries of State, the National Association of State Election Directors, the U.S. Election Assistance Commission, and the National Association of Election Officials.

"Every eligible voter should have the information and opportunity they need to participate," said Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon, Democratic co-chair of National Voter Registration Day. "National Voter Registration Day brings election officials and community organizations together to reach people where they are, answer their questions and help them take that important first step."

"Registering to vote is the first step toward making your voice heard," said Kentucky Secretary of State Michael Adams, Republican co-chair of National Voter Registration Day. "Whether you recently became eligible, moved, changed your name or simply want to make sure your information is current, today is a good day to check your registration and get ready for the election ahead."
