New Rochelle Apartment Complex Faces Federal Discrimination Lawsuit

Prospective tenants who are black were allegedly told there were no apartments available, or that there was a waiting list.

Pelham East Apartments, a complex on Pelham Road in New Rochelle, is facing a federal lawsuit for allegedly refusing to rent to black apartment seekers, according to The Journal News.

The nonprofit Fair Housing Justice Center investigated a claim by a prospective black tenant who was denied an apartment, and found cause to file the discrimination lawsuit.

Prospective tenants who are black were allegedly told there were no apartments available, or that there was a waiting list, but white apartment seekers were shown units, the suit claims.
