New Rochelle Appoints New Fire Chief
He's a 22-year veteran of the New Rochelle Fire Department.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The interim fire chief for New Rochelle was appointed to head the fire department, effective Sept. 1. City Manager Charles B. Strome III said Andrew Sandor, who served as interim fire chief since Lou DiMeglio retired June 29 after 45 years of service, will be the new chief.
Sandor, a 22-year veteran of the New Rochelle Fire Department, has risen through the ranks from his appointment as a probationary firefighter in 1996.
In 2002, he was promoted to fire lieutenant and then to fire captain in 2008.

During his time as a company officer, Sandor has served in all five fire stations in the city.
Sandor has a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Iona College, as well as an associate's degree in fire science from Corning Community College.

He has also served for several years as a state and Westchester County fire instructor.
Sandor will be ceremonially sworn in during the department's annual ceremony in October.
