New Rochelle Budget Vote May 15 To Require 60 Percent Approval
The tax levy increase is almost 1.7 percent more than the allowable tax cap.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The budget for the 2018-19 school year for the New Rochelle district will require the approval of 60 percent of voters in order to pass Tuesday, May 15. The $272.8 million spending package is 5.08 percent more than the current budget.
The budget proposal has a 3.89 percent tax levy increase, which means it exceeds the state tax cap of 2.231 percent for New Rochelle.
If after two separate votes the budget doesn’t pass, the district would have to adopt a contingency budget and would have to reduce the spending by almost $8 million.
