New Rochelle Chess Player Headed to Junior Championship

He is one of 10 players who will be competing in St. Louis.

New Rochelle, NY — Two young Westchester chess players will be heading to St. Louis next month to compete in the U.S. Junior Closed Championships.

Michael Bodek of New Rochelle and Nicolas Checa of Dobbs Ferry will be joining eight other chess players for a chance to complete in the 2017 U.S. Chess Championships and more than $20,000 in prizes.

The tournament, which is for junior players under the age of 21, will be held at the Chess Club and scholastic Center of Saint Louis July 7-18.

Each round of the 2016 U.S. Junior Closed Championship will feature live commentary from Grandmaster Ben Finegold and FIDE Master Aviv Friedman. Viewers can watch in-person at the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis or online at www.uschesschamps.com.
