New Rochelle Corner Drugstore to Close Up Shop Friday, CVS Buyout

Almarc Drugs in New Rochelle will close its doors Friday, April 20, for the last time.

According to a press release sent out Tuesday, CVS Corporation has purchased Almarc's two locations in New Rochelle and Larchmont. The store in New Rochelle—located at 507 Main St.—will close Friday. An employee of the Larchmont store, Steve Silverman, confirmed that Thursday would be the last day the pharmacy would be open. He referred further questions to owner Marc Klein.

The 120-year old Rhode Island-based drugstore chain operates 7,327 retail drugstores in the U.S. and Puerto Rico and 657 retail health care clinics in 25 states and the District of Columbia according to their business profile.

"Following the store closures in Larchmont and New Rochelle, CVS/pharmacy will transfer Almarc’s pharmacy operations to nearby CVS locations and will begin filling prescriptions for Almarc customers the following day," said the release sent out by CVS.

Larchmont Drugs’ prescriptions will be transferred to the CVS/pharmacy located at in the Mamaroneck Shopping Center and Main St. Apothecary & Surgical Supply’s prescriptions will be transferred to the CVS/pharmacy located at 222 North Ave. in New Rochelle. There are a total of 10 CVS locations in Larchmont, Mamaroneck and New Rochelle.

The release also indicated that CVS would be interviewing Almarc's employees from both locations for positions in nearby stores. CVS plans to continue Almarc’s prescription home delivery service.     

Owners Alan and Marc Klein did not return several phone calls seeking comment.
