New Rochelle Expands Downtown Parking With 175 New Spaces
In addition to the new Maple Avenue garage opening, updated regulations will provide new parking spaces across New Rochelle.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — As other cities makes moves to restrict automobile traffic, it's about to get easier to park in New Rochelle
As part of its downtown revitalization efforts, the city of New Rochelle announced that parking options are set to expand this fall as the Maple Avenue garage opens and amended parking regulations in the Prospect St. parking lot will create nearly 175 new parking spaces.
This fall, a new parking garage on Maple Ave. will be opening with a mix of metered and permit parking. The new garage will have two municipal parking levels and roughly 70,000 square feet of public parking space. With this new construction, the city of New Rochelle will increase the amount of available public parking spaces in the area in an effort to support residents and local businesses.

As construction wraps us, Maple Ave. will return to two-way traffic flow and on-street metered parking will be re-installed on the east side of Maple Avenue, returning public parking spaces for the use of residents and businesses.
In addition to expanded parking in the Maple Ave. garage, changes in the Prospect Street parking lot will include the addition of a 24/7 metered parking portion of the lot as well as a free 24/7 valet parking service for those using the garage. The changes will start on September 22.

"This new and improved parking infrastructure will be a boon for businesses and residents, making their lives easier by providing easy and affordable parking across the city," said Adam Salgado, Development Commissioner for the City of New Rochelle. "With ample parking, visitors and neighbors will no longer have to jockey for accessible parking spaces. This is a meaningful step in making New Rochelle accessible to all, visitors and community members alike."
The city's efforts to increase downtown parking come as the two largest cities in the U.S. are making moves to reduce car traffic. The city perhaps most associated traffic, Los Angeles, has taken steps to reduce the number of parking spaces available. Meanwhile, Manhattan just a dozen miles away, is moving forward with plans to implement congestion pricing for commuters driving to the city.
NYC's congestion pricing plans could very well increase the demand for parking in New Rochelle as more commuters choose to take public transportation into Manhattan. In the meantime, the news that more affordable parking options are on the way is being welcomed by residents and small businesses alike.
"Thanks to this incredible improvement in our city’s parking infrastructure, our neighbors will no longer struggle to find parking spaces downtown," City Manager Charles Strome said. "With more parking spaces available, customers and visitors will be able to enjoy the downtown and surrounding areas much more often than before."
