New Rochelle Grand Market To Hold Pie-Eating Contest

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — If you love sweet potato pie and you're competitive, there's an contest with you name on it. The New Rochelle Downtown Grand Market is starting its Independence Day celebration early, and one of the activities is the Annual Sweet Potato Pie-Eating Contest Saturday, June 30.

The pie-eating contest starts at 1 p.m., and is sponsored by the Luscious Little Dessert Company. Three contestants will be chosen. If you'd like to enter, and you are at least 18 years old, email info@lusciouslittledesserts.com, with the subject "Pie-Eating Contest."

Also on Saturday there will be a free American flag give-away, while supplies last, an Independence Day-themed craft, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and live bluegrass music from noon to 1 p.m.

Visitors to the market will also enjoy all the farm-fresh and specialty foods and hand-made crafts.

The New Rochelle Grand Market is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 27 at Library Green at Ruby Dee Park.
