New Rochelle Hearing to Discuss Roadway Abandonment

The roadway between two parcels will be conveyed to the developer so a diner can be built on the site.

You have plenty of time to decide how you want your eggs cooked, but New Rochelle is yet another step closer to getting a new diner.

The City Council, at a recent meeting, scheduled a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. April 9, 2013, regarding the abandonment of the roadway that connects Main Street and Nardozzi Place.

"I'm pleased to see this moving forward," said Mayor Noam Bramson.

In June 2012, the city entered into an agreement with DeRaffele Manufacturing to purchase two city lots between Main Street and Nardozzi Place off Weyman Avenue for $600,000 for the purpose of building and operating a diner.

The lots will have to be combined to accommodate the diner and parking area, according a memorandum from City Manager Charles Strome III to the City Council.

"Also necessary to accommodate the diner project is the inclusion of an additional southbound receiving lane at the intersection of Main Street and Weyman Avenue," he wrote. "These improvements will be made by the developer."

Strome said once the roadway is abandoned then the city can move toward closing the sale of the property and the construction can begin.

DeRaffele Manufacturing is located on Palmer Avenue and builds prefabricated diners. Their site plan for the diner was approved February 26.
