New Rochelle Jazz Festival Is Back This Week With New Venues

Cool jazz sounds on the Sound Shore with an international connection is making a return with Hudson Park's free outdoor concerts.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The New Rochelle Jazz Festival is jamming once again this year on three different nights this week.

Thursday, July 14 (Bastille Day): "Jazz Festival Kickoff Event" at Maria Restaurant from 7 p.m. -11 p.m. Maria Restaurant is located at 11 Huguenot Ave.

Friday, July 15: "Jazz at Five Islands" in Five Islands Park, 5 p.m. The Brian Carter Quartet will be featured, with Jared Pauley on piano, Carl Bartlett Jr. on alto sax, Paul Reily on bass and Brian Carter on drums. Five Islands Park is located at LeFevre Lane.

Saturday, July 16 will have "Jazz at Hudson Park" at 5 p.m. with the CJ Quartet featuring Michael Lemorin on guitar and vocals, Courtney Johnson on trumpet, Chris Wright on drums and Matthew Wint on bass. At 6:30 p.m., singer/songwriter Emma Steen will perform. At 7:30 p.m., jazz singers Ras Chemash and Lady Cantrice will perform, acccompanied by Raciim Asar Saud on bass, Danny Delillio on piano, Lou Vega on guitar and Brian Carter on drums. Hudson Park is located at 1 Hudson Park Road.

The New Rochelle Jazz Festival was founded in 2008 by Brian Carter, Ross May and Donna Harris as a celebration of jazz in July. The core mission of the festival is to continue a transatlantic musical exchange with New Rochelle's sister city La Rochelle in France, which will be hosting its own renowned jazz festival in October.
