New Rochelle Library Unveils Full Summer Of Unique Programs
Free Mexican dance workshops, theater performances, STEAM, literacy and coding programs will be a part of the daily offerings.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The New Rochelle Public Library will share the world with students this summer vacation, without ever having to leave town.
The New Rochelle Public Library's 2022 Summer Programs for children and teens kick off this Thursday. Children's programs will take place twice a day at both the main branch of the library and the Huguenot Children's Library. Teen programs will take place daily in the teen room at the main library at 3 p.m. In addition to the daily programs, special children's theater performances, STEAM, literacy workshops, interactive coding and physics sessions will be offered.
Free traditional Mexican dance workshops led by professionals from Calpulli Mexican Dance Company will begin on Thursday, July 7 and run for six weeks up until Thursday, August 11.

- Children ages 5-7 will meet on Thursdays, from 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
- Children ages 8-13 will meet on Thursdays, from 2:45 p.m. - 4 p.m.
- Teens/adults will meet on Thursdays from 4:15 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. in the Ossie Davis Theater and meeting room.
The workshops will aim to help participants gain an understanding of Mexican culture through dance, music and costume. You can register for the series by attending the first session.
Following the series of workshops, students will be joined by members of the Calpulli Mexican Dance Company for a performance on Tuesday, August 16. This performance will be the final performance of the 2022 International Music and Dance Festival, which is a collaboration of the New Rochelle Public Library and the New Rochelle Downtown Business Improvement District, with funding from The Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library.

The full lineup of children's summer programs, offered as part of the "Oceans of Possibilities" Summer Reading Challenge, begins the week of July 11 and can be found online here. Twice daily programs will take place at both locations on weekdays until August 26. These programs will include aquatic-themed storytimes, art projects, music and movement, yoga fun with Budding Buddhas, building aquatic habitats with ArchforKids, STEM activities and animal meet-and-greets led by educators from the Stamford Museum & Nature Center, The Maritime Aquarium and the Animal Embassy. Teen programs will include video gaming, VR, chess, board games, coding and 3D arts and crafts.
