New Rochelle Library Will Host Budget Hearing And Candidates Forum

The League of Women Voters will hold a forum for library and school board candidates in the library's Ossie Davis Theater.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Election day is nearing and the library is once again availing itself as one of the best resources for voters to learn more about the issues at hand.

The New Rochelle Public Library will hold a public hearing on the proposed 2023-2024 budget on Thursday, May 4, at 7 p.m. in the library’s Ossie Davis Theater. In addition, the May meeting of the library’s Board of Trustees will begin at 7:30 p.m.

The annual vote to adopt the 2023-2024 New Rochelle Public Library budget and to elect two New Rochelle Public Library trustees will take place on Tuesday, May 16, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., at the city’s school district polling places. Copies of the proposed budget are available in the Administrative Office of the library.

The proposed 2023-2024 budget calls for an increase of 6.87 percent in the tax levy for New Rochelle residents. This tax levy increase translates to an increase of $417,724 to the current levy amount, or an annual increase of $24.07 per household for the "average" taxpayer.

The League of Women Voters will hold their annual forum for library and school boards on Tuesday, May 9, at 6 p.m. in the library’s Ossie Davis Theater.

Registered voters who need to find out the polling location for their district, or need an absentee ballot, may contact the School District Clerk’s office at 914-576-4219 or visit the school district’s website. Applications for absentee ballots are also available in the library’s community bulletin board area.
