New Rochelle Man Dies After Being Struck By Car In Monroe
New York State Police said the fatal car and pedestrian crash happened early Saturday morning on State Route 17.
MONROE, NY — A New Rochelle man was killed over the weekend when he was struck by a car in Monroe.
The New York State Police said the fatal car and pedestrian crash happened around 6:16 a.m. on Saturday, on State Route 17 eastbound in the town of Monroe.
Troopers were sent to State Route 17 for a report of someone hit by a car.

After investigating, troopers learned that Garfield E. Elliot, 47, of New Rochelle, was involved in a crash where he was driving one of the vehicles. After exiting his car in the center median of State Route 17, he stepped into the roadway where he was struck by a 2018 Volkswagen traveling eastbound.
Elliot was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed for about 2 hours. State police said that the investigation remains ongoing.
