NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The City School District of New Rochelle has officially appointed two new top administrators, including the high school principal.

Olivine Roberts was introduced as the district’s Chief Academic Officer and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. Dagoberto Artiles, a long-time New Rochelle resident whose children attend district schools, was named as the new New Rochelle High School principal.

Both hirings were approved by the Board of Education on Tuesday night.

“These dedicated educators have extensive academic leadership experience and proven track records in working collaboratively to frame and enact strategies that enhance teaching and learning, and prepare students for lifelong success,” Superintendent Jonathan Raymond said of the appointments. “These two individuals understand that whole-child education is needed more than ever. Together, we will continue to provide our children with a rich environment that fosters academic achievement, analytical thinking, civic engagement and social responsibility.”

Artiles comes to New Rochelle from Jericho High School in Nassau County, where he served as Assistant Principal since 2013. Previously, he was Principal of the Hempstead Union Free School District’s College Preparatory Academy for Math and Science, and Assistant Principal at North Rockland High School, where he began as a Global Studies teacher.

“New Rochelle is my home,” Artiles told the school board members. “I feel privileged and excited to bring my secondary-school leadership experience to our city’s high school. Through collaboration with my colleagues, parents and community, we will continue to enhance access to quality programs at New Rochelle High School and ensure that students have the support necessary to achieve new levels of excellence while pursuing their dreams.”

Roberts joins the district from Atlanta Public Schools, where she most recently served as Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning. She also served as Deputy Chief of Schools and Academics and as the Chief Academic Officer during her six years tenure with the district.

Previously, Roberts worked for the Sacramento City Unified School District (where her new boss Superintendent Raymond also worked) as Chief Academic Officer. She has also served as an administrator for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District and the Little Rock School District.
