New Rochelle Opera Gala Thursday Celebrates 31st Year

The evening's guests of honor are a world-renowned mezzo-soprano and conductor.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The New Rochelle Opera will celebrate 31 years of bringing opera to Westchester County by holding a fundraiser Thursday, May 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Fountainhead, 55 Quaker Ridge Rd. in New Rochelle.

The guests of honor will be Metropolitan Opera mezzo-soprano Rosalind Elias and Maestro Eve Queler.

“Each year, we choose honorees whose breadth of work exemplifies high artistry, and who have had an impact on opera or the performing arts,” said NRO Artistic Director Camille Coppola.

“This year, we are delighted to have Rosalind and Eve join us to celebrate our 31st season,” she said.

Rosalind Elias has performed more than 50 roles with leading opera companies throughout the world, including the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Vienna State Opera, Paris Opera, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Hamburg State Opera, Glyndebourne Festival, Santa Fe Opera, the Liceo in Barcelona, and the Teatro San Carlo in Lisbon. She has also performed on Broadway.

Eve Queler has been a guest conductor of many European and South American orchestras, as well as through her work as music director of The Opera Orchestra of New York, conducting performances of seldom-heard operatic masterpieces, featuring internationally acclaimed stars. Queler recently received the nation’s highest honor for lifetime achievement in the field of opera, as the 2010 National Endowment for the Arts Lifetime Achievement in Opera award recipient.
