New Rochelle Police Charge 2 Over Thefts From Cars

Detectives staked out a car that had been reported stolen elsewhere in Westchester.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — At about 1:34 a.m. Thursday, New Rochelle police were notified by the Westchester County Police Real Time Crime Center that a vehicle stolen overnight in Yonkers was traveling in New Rochelle.

Detectives soon located the vehicle parked on Elm Street and suspected the occupants were on foot in the area.

At 3:15 a.m., the detectives saw two people approach the vehicle and surmised they were carrying items they had just stolen from cars. They blocked it. The men ran away, but were quickly apprehended.

Yonkers residents Rafael Negron, 43, and Hector Hernandez, 33, were each charged with three counts of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property. They also face drug possession charges, police said.
