NEW ROCHELLE, NY — It took two days to count the ballots, but the City School District of New Rochelle completed the process and said that its $284 million budget for 2020-21 was approved by the voters. Results were announced shortly after 2 a.m. Thursday.
According to unofficial results, there were 4,554 in favor and 2,997 against.
After beginning the process at 5 p.m. Tuesday, district announced early Wednesday morning that it would not be able to finish tallying the votes and would start back up at 5 p.m. Wednesday. All ballots were sent in by mail or were dropped off at various locations around the city. No polls were open for this election as mandated by the state.

Superintendent Dr. Laura Feijóo thanked the community for its support, especially during difficult and uncertain times.
"It is gratifying to see support for a budget that will add social work and teaching positions, provide funds to narrow achievement gaps and launch a districtwide STEAM initiative," she said.

No results from the school trustee election were announced.
There were 12 candidates running for two Board of Education positions. They were Adina Brooks, incumbent Christopher Daniello, Barbara D'Alois, Stephen DiDonato, Sharon Footes, Matthew Hirschman, Michael Leone, Katie Minaya, Timothy McKnight, Mario Searano, Julia Taylor and Donald Vega.
