New Rochelle School Board To Meet Over Reassigned Coach
The controversy over the coach's reassignment is overshadowing the football team's pursuit of a state championship.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The fate of Coach Lou DiRienzo is still undetermined at New Rochelle High School, but a resolution could be forthcoming in light of a special meeting being called by the school board. DiRienzo was reassigned from teaching and coaching responsibilities Nov. 13.
At the time, Superintendent Laura Feijoo said she couldn't discuss the circumstances and wanted the community to know the district had the children's best interests at heart.
A statement issued Monday said that the district had an opportunity to speak with DiRienzo and that the board called for a special meeting for Monday evening.

"There will be no public comment from the district and board members following the meeting as is the board's usual practice when a special meeting is called," the statement said.
"The board needs time to deliberate on today's meeting and determine appropriate next steps," the district said.

The Huguenots football team will be heading to the Class AA state championship Sunday in Syracuse. It is not known whether DiRienzo will be able to coach that game.
"We admire the hard work of our outstanding student athletes and assistant coaches, and celebrate their achievements and dedication," the district said in its statement. "We will continue to support and cheer for the Huguenots as they continue their quest for a state championship."
