New Superintendent Chosen To Take Over New Rochelle Schools

She comes from the New York City Department of Education.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A new superintendent was appointed Friday for the New Rochelle school district. The Board of Education announced Dr. Laura Feijóo will take over the position effective Nov. 1.

The appointment was made at a special meeting at city hall.

Board President Jeffrey Hastie said he and the trustees were excited to welcome Feijóo to the district.

"Dr. Feijóo brings a wealth of experience and is an expert in the areas of curriculum, instruction, leadership and community-building at all levels," he said

Feijóo currently serves the New York City Department of Education in the capacity of senior superintendent. In the role, she is directly responsible for supporting the chancellor's vision for schools across all divisions in policy and labor management.

Additionally, she was selected by her colleagues to serve as president for the New York State Council of School Superintendents during the 2017-18 school year.

Feijóo said she was honored to have been selected to be superintendent.

"I plan to work tirelessly together with the board, administrators and staff to ensure that each and every student has the opportunities and supports needed to be successful, not only as students, but as future citizens," she said.

Following the resignation of Dr. Brian Osborne in 2018, Dr. Magda Parvey was appointed interim superintendent. She will continue in the role until Oct. 31.
