Newest Members of New Rochelle Cares AIP Board

Two prominent New Rochelle residents will add their expertise to help this organization develop further.

New Rochelle Cares – Aging-In-Place is pleased to announce that two prominent local figures have joined our Board: Damon Maher and Miriam Zucker.

Mr. Maher is a member of the Westchester County Board of Legislators representing Eastchester, Tuckahoe, and about half of New Rochelle. A lifelong Westchester resident, he has made New Rochelle his home for the past 25 years. He is a managing partner in a small law firm in lower Manhattan that concentrates on employees’ rights and civil litigation.

Damon has been an active volunteer in many local organizations including the Board of the New Rochelle Bar Association, NewRo Runners, the Board of Trustees for the New Rochelle Library Foundation, Westchester Foster & Adoptive Families, and Youth Soccer of New Rochelle. He is a past director of the Yale Alumni Fund and Yale Big Brothers/Big Sisters and is a founding member of the Giving Circle of Lower Westchester and New Rochelle Against Racism (NewRoAR). He has donated to New Rochelle Cares AIP since its founding, believes strongly in its mission and is looking forward to playing a more active role in helping to grow this organization.

Ms. Zucker, a licensed New York State social worker, is the founder of Directions in Aging, a service devoted to helping families explore the resources and options available to them to assure the best solution for the care of an aging family member, be it determining the level of care needed or navigating the health care system. In conjunction with Brookdale Center for Healthy Aging and Longevity of Hunter College, she was the founder of the Certificate Program in Professional Geriatric Care Management and has served as an instructor for the program for nearly 20 years.

Miriam, or Micky as she prefers to be called, a member of the National Association of Social Workers, American Society on Aging, and the Central Westchester Geriatric Committee. She is an advanced member of the Aging Life Care Association, for which she served two terms as President of the Greater New York Chapter and was honored as an Outstanding Member. She currently serves on the Quality Assurance boards for Westchester Care at Home and Westchester Jewish Family Services. She brings this wealth of experience and expertise to New Rochelle Cares AIP.

New Rochelle Cares AIP is thrilled to have these two very accomplished people work with us. We are is a not-for-profit, volunteer run organization. It is dedicated to giving New Rochelle residents 60 and over the support they need to remain in their own homes as they age, while remaining connected to the community. The primary needs served are transportation and socialization. Since its launch in November of 2015, they have provided almost 1500 rides to its members and put on a wide variety of educational and social programs. We are Neighbors Helping Neighbors.
