NRCA Adds Two “Rain Date” Concerts

Summer Sounds Concert Series Extended through August at Hudson Park Band Shell

Summer is going to last a little longer this year – at least at Hudson Park! The New Rochelle Council on the Arts has added two “rain date” makeup concerts to the Summer Sounds Concert Series: Live music will continue at the Hudson Park band shell with The Fabulous Acchords performing Doo Wop music and vocal harmonies of the 50s and 60s and 70s on Wednesday, August 28th and a salsa night double bill featuring Edgar Suarez and Manny’s Boogaloi Crew on Friday, August 30th. Food trucks for both nights will be Taqueria del Valle and Wing King.

The Summer Sounds Concert Series has been rocking the park all summer, featuring an eclectic lineup of bands and food trucks, but unusually rainy weather led to several cancelled concerts. The decision was made to add two dates to accommodate three of the groups; others who were rained out will be invited to perform during ArtsFest.

The Summer Sounds concert series is presented by the New Rochelle Council on the Arts, in partnership with the New Rochelle Dept. of Parks and Recreation, and is co-sponsored by the City of New Rochelle, Montefiore New Rochelle, Friends of the Parks, The Pawfect Brew, Terri and Alvin Bowles, Andrew Francella/ Velosaty, RXR and Town House Kitchen + Drinks.

The New Rochelle Council on the Arts (NRCA) was created by the New Rochelle City Council in 1975 to stimulate and encourage the study and presentation of the performing and fine arts. For nearly 50 years NRCA has worked to fulfill that mission by sponsoring art exhibitions, theatrical productions, dance recitals, film screenings, lectures, and concert series. In addition, NRCA has sponsored public art -- like the popular NRNY Murals downtown and the statue of author E.L. Doctorow at Huguenot Park -- and created ArtsFest, while helping to build relationships between the arts, the business community and city government. The NRCA website www.newrochellearts.org is the “go-to” place for information about the arts. NRCA’s programs are made possible, in part, by ArtsWestchester with funds from Westchester County Government, the City of New Rochelle, and the support of community donations.
