NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The New Rochelle Police Department will be joining the Rye Chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace for a Bunk Bed Build Day event on Saturday.

Starting at 8 a.m., at NRPD Headquarters located at 475 North Avenue, and continuing throughout the afternoon, the department’s Community Engagement Officers (PACT) and dozens of volunteers will build quality bunk beds for New Rochelle children and families in need.

Those who have an interest in volunteering for the NRPD and Sleep In Heavenly Community Build Day Saturday, are requested to pre-register as soon as possible here. Pre-registering will help the organizers in tracking the number of volunteers and ease volunteer check-in Saturday morning.

"For some in our community, having their own bed to sleep in at night is not a given," said Captain Neil Reynolds. "Thanks to the efforts of Detective Terrence Fudge, we are grateful to partner with Matt Ambrogi and the Rye Chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace to help our local families provide for their loved ones."

"Childhood bedlessness isn't a real word, but it is a real problem. With the support from our partner and national sponsor, Lowe's, as well as from local sponsor Gwendolyn Appleyard Trust, SHP is happy to build 20 beds for New Rochelle kids," said Matt Ambrogi, chapter co-founder of SHP NY-Rye.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace fully believes that a bed is a basic need for the proper physical, emotional and mental support that a child needs. When it was brought to our attention that the need for beds went far beyond their own neighborhoods, they stepped up and took initiative. They are a national organization answering the call to a national problem. If a child needs a bed, they want to make sure they get one. They say "no kid sleeps on the floor in our town!"
