Library Offers Free Spring Break Programs For The Kids

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A break from school doesn't need to be a break from friends and enrichment for New Rochelle schoolchildren.

The main branch of the New Rochelle Public Library will be offering a variety of free programs for children next week, from April 11 to April 15, during the school holiday break.

On Monday, April 11, from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., children ages 3-8 will be able to sing and dance with popular children's entertainer Dawny Dew and her puppet friends. From 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., children ages 3-8 will also be able to enjoy the renowned Paper Bag Players in the Ossie Davis Theater performing Sing a Song, Dance a Dance, a revue of theatrical and imaginative sketches aimed to have audience members standing up and laughing hard.

On Tuesday, April 12, between 11 a.m. - noon, children ages 2 to 5 and their caregivers will be able to decorate flower pots and plant seeds in the Spring Garden Planting Craft program. From 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., children ages 7 to 12 will be able to create Earth Day-inspired pop-up art creations of a 3D underwater scene or a buzzing bee in a garden.

On Wednesday, April 13, from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., children ages 2 to 5 will be able to attend Spring Into Stories for books, songs and movement. For children ages 3 to 10, Magician Joshy K. will show up at 2 p.m. for magical transformations, teleportations, audience participation, Rubik's cubes and an 8-foot tall appearance.

On Thursday, April 14, at 10:30 a.m., children 5 and up can bring their families to watch Clifford the Big Red Dog movie. From 2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m., author Anne Mottola will share how she created her series, Wonders in the Garden. Children ages 4 to 10 and their parents or guardians can hear the books read and join Mottola for some garden activities.

On Friday, April 15, at 10:30 a.m., children 5 and up and their families can watch the movie Encanto.

All programs are free of charge. Tickets will be required to attend all programs and may be picked up in the Children's Room of the Main Library at 1 Library Plaza, on the day of the program. Space is limited and the programs will be first come, first served. Ticket holders will not be admitted if they are more than 10 minutes late. Masks will be optional and social distancing will be observed.
