Fernandez Wins NY State Senate District 34 Primary In Landslide

The Bronx State Assemblyperson now takes on Republican/Conservative party hopeful Samantha Zherka in the General Election on November 8.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — The unofficial results are in and Bronx State Assemblyperson Nathalia Fernandez is the apparent winner in the primary contest for New York's 34th State Senate District.

Fernandez had key endorsements from Biaggi and the Bronx Democratic Party.

Before redistricting, District 34 included parts of Pelham, New Rochelle, Mount Vernon, Town of Eastchester and the Bronx. Now, only about a quarter of the District is in Westchester. Pelham, Pelham Manor and part of New Rochelle remain in the district, but the bulk of the district is in the east Bronx.

Incumbent Alessandra Biaggi, a Westchester resident, opened the seat when she announced her bid for Congress. She has since bought a $1.4 million home in Bedford and settled on running for the NY-17 Congressional District.

The three Bronx residents running in the Democratic primary were Fernandez, Christian Amato and John Perez.

With 100 percent of the vote in, Fernandez had captured more than 62 percent of the vote.


Fernandez will now take on Republican/Conservative party challenger Samantha Zherka in the General Election on November 8.
