'Overdue' Community Blood Drive At New Rochelle Public Library

The Red Cross says that donors with all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, A negative and B negative.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — As blood donations lag and reserves in the region continue to fall below optimal levels, a New Rochelle institution is doing its part to help out.

The New Rochelle Public Library announced that it will be hosting a community blood drive with the American Red Cross on Wednesday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the main branch of the library.

"The New Rochelle Public Library is committed to strengthening our community and helping meet hospital and patient needs through blood donations," Library Director Tom Geoffino said. "This blood drive is our way of giving staff, colleagues and neighbors an opportunity to help save lives."

With someone in the U.S. needing blood every two seconds, blood products must be constantly replenished, according to the Red Cross.
