Rain To Sun For New Rochelle's Weekend Weather

We will tell you what you can expect for the weekend in the Queen City on the Sound.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — We head into another August weekend in the Hudson Valley with below normal temperatures. And of course, there is a chance of rain. But the entire weekend won’t be a washout — which is a good thing.

Clouds have overtaken the sunshine on Friday, as a weak disturbance pushes through the area. The chance of showers will be Friday evening into Saturday.

“By Saturday, we should begin to see breaks of sunshine mixing with clouds, with the threat for scattered showers tapering early in the morning,” said Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather.

“However … another period of scattered showers and thunderstorms seems likely for mid- to late-afternoon on Saturday. So it’s probably best to expect the threat of a shower or storm if you have plans on Saturday.”

No doubt you’ve noticed that is doesn’t really feel like mid-August in the Hudson Valley with the not-so-hot days and nights.

Alex Sosnowski, AccuWeather senior meteorologist, said not to write off 90-degree temps just yet.

“The sun is still strong enough to cancel out some of the cool air by day with highs in the lower 80s in the Northeast and Midwest,” he said.

“The nights, however, will tend to be cooler and feel more like September,” Sosnowski said.

The jet stream is likely to recede toward the end of August, meteorologists said, with high temps in the upper 80s to near 90.
