An officer was injured when the fleeing suspect made a calculated bid to evade arrest, according to New Rochelle police.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A robbery suspect's desperate bid to escape police failed, thanks in part to an assist from rush hour traffic.
On Thursday, just before 6 p.m., New Rochelle police received a call of a possible burglary occurring at a home on Morgan Street. When officers arrived, they found that the suspect had left the scene and had not yet entered the house.
Less than a half-hour later, New Rochelle police received another call about a robbery occurring in a Davenport Ave. parking lot. Police were told the suspect was attempting to flee in a vehicle. As the first officer arrived in the parking lot, the suspect intentionally rammed into the police car, injuring the officer and causing significant damage to the police car, according to officials.
