Services Held Honoring WCBS-TV Newsman John Slattery of New Rochelle

Hundreds turned out for services in Larchmont Tuesday to honor the late WCBS-TV newsman John Slattery of New Rochelle, who died last week at the age of 63.

Slattery, who worked for the New York station for about 30 years, was remembered as “steady, plainspoken and unflappable,” according to WCBS-TV. Over his career, he won four Emmy Awards for his reporting and covered hundreds of stories.

Tuesday’s services were held at Saints John and Paul Church in Larchmont. He passed away Thursday in his home in New Rochelle of an apparent heart attack.

“We are saddened by the unexpected passing of our friend and colleague John Slattery,” said Peter Dunn, president of CBS Television Stations, in a statement last week at the time of his death. “During his nearly 30-year career at WCBS, he was great at reporting the news and was someone we counted on to cover big stories for us, both here in New York and around the world. Our thoughts and prayers are with John’s wife, Suzie, and their children and grandchildren.”
