Some New Rochelle Lakes, Ponds OK For Ice Skating
Ice skating surfaces will be inspected daily after which their status will be updated.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — It’s cold outside and it’s going to continue to be cold for a while, so let’s skate. Some of New Rochelle’s skating lakes and ponds have been inspected and are now open for skating effective Tuesday, Jan. 2. Park staff have posted signs indicating that skating is permitted at Paine Lake, the South Lake of Huguenot Park/Twin Lakes at New Rochelle High School and Carpenter’s Pond.
The signs are white with red lettering.
Skating is only permitted in areas designated by park barricades.

Ice skating is not permitted at any other city lakes.
Parks and Recreation Interim Commissioner Bill Zimmermann said that skaters should realize that outdoor ice is not as smooth and consistent as artificial ice at a skating rink.
“The ice that forms on ponds and lakes can be rougher, bumpier and with crevices,” he said. “So in addition to staying in the designated areas, we are encouraging skaters to be extra careful on the ice.”
