Stolen Car Chase On Thruway Turns Into Foot Chase, Gun Seized: NRPD

New Rochelle might not be the smartest I-95 pit stop when you're driving a stolen car and carrying an illegal gun.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A tip about a stolen car led to a brief car chase and then a foot pursuit, before two suspects were arrested and a gun was recovered.

On Wednesday shortly before 5 p.m., New Rochelle police were alerted by the Westchester County Police Real Time Crime Center that a stolen car was possibly entering New Rochelle from I-95 South. New Rochelle detectives keeping an eye on I-95 spotted the vehicle traveling south. The stolen car got off the thruway at Exit 15.

When the detectives tried to stop the car on the exit ramp, a brief car pursuit ensued and the vehicle fled south on I-95 again. Police ended the pursuit for safety reasons but saw the vehicle take Exit 13 to Connor Street.

Westchester County Police and NYPD responded to help search for the wanted car. New Rochelle detectives soon saw the vehicle stuck in traffic and approached on foot. The two occupants of the car spotted the police converging and tried to flee on foot. After a brief foot chase, both suspects were caught. Police report finding a loaded Smith and Wesson 9MM handgun in the abandoned car.

Two Brooklyn men were arrested.

Victor Bourne, 23 and Naquan McMaster, 28 are charged with felony criminal possession of stolen property and felony criminal possession of a loaded firearm, according to police.
