Summer Sounds Concert Series Returns To The Band Shell

New Rochelle will host free, live music all summer long at one of the most picturesque perches on the entire Sound Shore.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Sound will be filled with music again this summer with free outdoor concerts on the Long Island Sound shore.

After being scrapped last season due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Summer Sounds Concert Series will enter its 14th season with free, live concerts at the historic Hudson Park bandshell. This years’s lineup will go a long way toward making up for the lost summer.

Wayne Henderson Jazz Ensemble will take the stage August 1, at 3 p.m. Band leader Wayne Henderson (on drums) will be featuring jazz pianist John Colianni along with Ron Wilkins on trombone, Freddie Hendrix on trumpet, Nick Biello on saxophone and Marco Panascia on bass. The Mikey Dubbs food truck is scheduled to be there.

On August 4, at 7:30 p.m., Gentlemen of Soul will be performing a blend of musical styles ranging from Top 40 hits and soul to R & B, rap and disco.

Food trucks Pizza Vitale and Mikey Dubbs will be on hand for this show.

The Monica Uhm Trio of Awesuhm will delight on August 8, at 3 p.m. Uhm is a singer-songwriter known for her “catchy tunes, intelligent lyrics and quirky live banter.” (Her musical style is self-dubbed "kitchen-sink twist on Americana.") Trio Of Awesuhm is a folk-rock band with a sound described as "philoso-folk on the rocks." The Mikey Dubbs food truck will be parked nearby.

On August 11, at 7:30 p.m., Ladies Day Jazz Ensemble will be playing jazz standards and original compositions by classic and contemporary jazz women.

Food trucks Leila’s Empanadas and Mr. Softee will keep the audience sated while the band keeps us entertained.

The Victor Lagamma Quartet will play American jazz standard favorites and original compositions on August 15, at 3 p.m. Food trucks TBA.

The Carlos Jimenez Mambo Dulcet will be celebrating Latin sounds and keeping the audience on their feet on August 18, at 7:30 p.m.

Food truck Tecas Tacos and Mikey Dubbs will keep us fed in fine fashion as well.

On August 22, at 3 p.m., singer-songwriter Ben Clark will be playing rock, jazz and hip-hop. The Hoosier musician plays regularly at Brooklyn’s Way Station. Leila's Empanadas and Mikey Dubbs food trucks will be on hand.

Sway will close out the season with classic rock on August 25, at 7:30 p.m. Food trucks from Walter’s Hot Dogs and Mr. Softee will be in the house as well.

The Hudson Park Children’s Greenhouse will offer free yoga in the park every Wednesday before the concerts. Instructor Angela Derecas Taylor will offer a free class suitable for people of all abilities from 6 to 6:45 p.m.

The Summer Sounds concert series is presented by the New Rochelle Council on the Arts, in partnership with the New Rochelle Department of Parks and Recreation, and co-sponsored by Webster Bank and Twining Properties.

Hudson Park is located at 1 Hudson Park Road in New Rochelle; limited parking is available in the lots behind the stage as well as at the marina.
