NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Patrol cars looking for car thieves on Monday not only found their suspects, but also found evidence of another crime in progress.

Shortly before 2:30 pm, New Rochelle police were alerted by the Westchester County Real Time Crime Center that a stolen vehicle had just entered New Rochelle on Main Street near the border with Pelham Manor. Patrol officers began canvassing the area for the stolen car and eventually spotted it exiting the Home Depot parking lot on Weyman Avenue.

Officers approached the car while it was stopped at a traffic light. All three occupants of the vehicle attempted to flee on foot. One was stopped immediately and taken into custody. A second was caught nearby in the parking lot of the New Rochelle Diner. A third suspect was caught on Main Street, near Everett Street, by an officer on a traffic post.
