Teen Nabbed In New Rochelle With $90K In Stolen Treasury Checks: Cops

Police in Westchester were already on the lookout for the car he was driving after it fled from an NYPD pursuit hours earlier.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Early this morning, New Rochelle police arrested a teenager who had more than $90,000 in stolen U.S. Treasury checks, and possibly stolen social security payment checks, according to authorities.

Shortly after midnight on Tuesday, the Westchester County Police Real Time Crime Center (RTC) alerted the New Rochelle Police Department that a car that had previously fled from an NYPD traffic stop had just entered the city at Eastchester Road and Pelhamdale Avenue. This same vehicle was involved in another fleeing incident in New Rochelle at 7:55 p.m. the previous evening.

New Rochelle police spotted the suspect vehicle stopped in traffic at the intersection of Brook Street and Lincoln Avenue. Officers then boxed in the vehicle.

The driver, a 17-year-old, exited the vehicle and was unable to provide any identification or a driver’s license. He was placed under arrest and taken to police headquarters for processing.

During a search, the teen was found to be in possession of 24 checks from the United States Treasury, made out to 24 different people, totaling $91,396.38, police said.

The teen's identity is not being released by police. He has been charged with felony possession of stolen property.
