Thieves Steal $10K Worth Of School Supplies From Hope Community Services

The school supplies were supposed to be given out at a free event Saturday.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — About $10,000 worth of school supplies destined for a free backpack giveaway this weekend were stolen from Hope Community Services in New Rochelle Monday night.

Hope Executive Director Carole Troum said thieves made off with about 250 backpacks loaded with notebooks, pens, pencils, rulers and more, newyork.cbslocal.com said.

The giveaway is scheduled for Saturday at New Rochelle City Hall, and organizers are hoping for donations to make up the deficit.
