The holiday market is part of New Rochelle’s efforts to ensure that as its local economy grows, MWBEs have the opportunity to grow with it.
"The New Rochelle Holiday Market is the ultimate destination for all your holiday shopping, boasting an impressive array of local artisans, each showcasing their unique creations, you’re sure to find a gift for everyone on your list," Charmae Ellerbe, owner of WYNNEN, a vendor at this year’s Holiday Market, said. "I’m thankful that New Rochelle is so focused on creating opportunities for local businesses owned by minorities and women to grow and prosper. As an artisan, specializing in handcrafted semi-precious gemstone and copper bracelets, I take pride in creating pieces that cater to every wrist size and I’m thrilled to also offer a collection of clean, natural home fragrances in unique blends crafted to infuse your space with warmth and harmony. Every creation from WYNNEN is designed to uplift and evoke the best version of yourself."
City officials developed an outreach strategy that raised awareness of the opportunity to be a part of the market specifically among MWBEs.
"New Rochelle made it easy and cost-effective to select it as our base, and we’ve been warmly embraced by the community," Jonathan Boston, owner of Rex Bespoke Clothing, another vendor at the market, said. "It’s clear that paving the way to opportunity for all members of the local business community is central to the City’s efforts. From Festivals and fairs to the enchanting holiday Market, the city is a vital part of our journey, providing the perfect backdrop for our Bespoke creations."
New Rochelle also reached out to graduates of city programs that help MWBEs build their capacity so they can take their businesses to the next level, such as New Rochelle Forward, as well as MWBE vendors from previous markets. The selection committee for Holiday Market vendors also gave priority to local MWBE vendors.
"New Rochelle’s Holiday Market continues our long-term commitment to economic development and engaging community members and residents, providing avenues to entrepreneurship opportunities for local minority- and women-owned business enterprises," City Manager Kathleen Gill said. "We are thrilled to once again bring it to life and create a festive atmosphere for all to join."
Other attractions at the Holiday Market will include wide-ranging performances from local artists, and activities both inside and outside of the train station, which will be fully decked out for the holidays.
