Tommy Rivera Indicted in Killing Of New Rochelle HS Classmate

NEW ROCHELLE, NY —A Westchester County grand jury returned a murder indictment against the 16-year-old who was arrested in January in connection with a brazen shooting in New Rochelle.

New Rochelle resident Tommy Rivera was indicted for the shooting death of 16-year-old Julian Oliveros, Westchester County District Attorney Miriam Rocah announced on Wednesday.

Rivera was indicted by the grand jury for murder in the second degree and two felony counts of criminal possession of a weapon. He was arraigned on Wednesday.

Rivera faces a minimum indeterminate sentence of 15 years to life in state prison and a maximum indeterminate sentence of 25 years to life in state prison, according to Rocah's office.

"It is alleged that on January 25, 2022, at approximately 3:38 p.m., Rivera shot Oliveros multiple times near Fourth Street in New Rochelle. Oliveros, a New Rochelle resident, was transported to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, where he died that day," the Westchester District Attorney's Office said in a statement announcing the grand jury indictment.
